Meet Piper!

Meet Squad Foster Piper, formerly known as “Strawberry,” the courageous 2 year old pit mix who was brought to the shelter after she was found as a stray. Due to overcrowding at Greenville County Animal Care, she was scheduled to be euthanized. Her fate took a dramatic turn when we decided to rescue this sweet girl the day of her scheduled euth.

Piper brings hope with her miraculous negative heartworm status, a true miracle considering her circumstances. She is a social butterfly when it comes to her furry companions. Piper gets along well with other dogs and enjoys their company. However, she understandably feels nervous around people due to her past experiences. With some patience, understanding, and a pocketful of treats, Piper has already warmed up quickly and is learning to trust humans.

Piper requires attention for her mild right hind leg lameness, but assessing her condition has been difficult at the shelter due to her low growling, stiffness, and nervousness during evaluations. To provide her with the best care, she will undergo radiographs of her pelvis and hind legs during her spay procedure tomorrow (6/2/23). Additionally, a hind leg orthopedic exam will help determine the specific nature of her condition, such as CCL, MPL, & etc.

Update 6/3/23

Yesterday, Piper visited Greenville County Animal Care for her scheduled spay procedure, but the universe had other plans. Piper had woken up with a runny nose and cough, so Randy immediately informed the staff before her spay. Little did we know, Piper’s health concerns were more serious than expected— she was diagnosed with pneumonia. To add to the challenge, she also has a torn cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) and BB pellets lodged in her leg. As a result, her spay procedure has been postponed for two weeks to prioritize her recovery from pneumonia.

Despite her health setbacks, Piper’s delightful personality shines through! She is the epitome of sweetness and charm. Piper’s affectionate nature has already warmed our hearts.

Piper’s journey towards a brighter future will be filled with milestones and moments of triumph. Stay tuned for updates on her incredible progress as she overcomes her medical challenges and prepares to find her forever home.
