Meet Atticus

About Atticus

Atticus is approximately 2.5 years old and quite possibly the most affectionate Great Pyrenees you will ever meet. He is pure love wrapped in a fluffy white body — the kind of dog who leans into you, melts into cuddles, and makes every human feel like his favorite person.

And yes, Atticus has three legs — but don’t let that fool you for a second. It doesn’t slow him down one bit. He plays happily with his foster siblings, moves through life with confidence, and still manages to be both playful and wonderfully laid-back. When playtime is over, he’s happiest curled up on the couch, soaking in all the snuggles he can get.

Atticus adores being pampered. Brushing time is his love language, and he’s as easygoing and gentle as they come. He is fully house trained and thrives as a companion dog, not a working livestock guardian. His joy comes from being close to his people, not guarding a pasture.

Atticus has come an incredibly long way in his recovery, and we are currently awaiting his custom prosthetic limb, which he will be fitted for through Charm’s Paws-Ability Fund with 3DPets. His resilience is inspiring, but his sweetness is what truly steals hearts.

We are seeking a home with Great Pyrenees or other LGD experience, as understanding the unique needs and traits of these breeds is essential to his continued success.

If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate, soul-deep kind of dog — the kind who makes your house feel like home — Atticus may be your perfect match.

Atticus’s Spa Day

October 20, 2025

What Stephanie and her team did for Atticus today... there will never be enough words.

To put it simply-Atticus panicked. And not in the way that's easy to redirect or soothe.

His fear took over. He flailed, he froze, he gave warning bites (no broken skin, thankfully). It took four people to safely contain him. At one point, he even got his head wedged between two metal bars. If it wasn't for Stephanie and her incredible team's quick response, this day could've ended very differently.

Stephanie called us immediately, and we rushed over. By the time we got there, Atticus was exhausted from the fear but starting to come down as two team members carefully blow-dried him while we tried to comfort him.

Y'all-he looks and smells like a brand new dog.

There was no saving his neck or tail fur, but by some miracle, they managed to salvage more of his coat than we ever expected.

It's hard to show in photos or videos just how severe his matting was. We've never seen anything like it. His smell was so overpowering that every time we loved on him, we had to shower and wash our clothes after. And that's not an exaggeration-that was the reality.

Now he may look like a Polar Ostrich, but he looks 1,000x better than where he started. And smells better, too!

Once the worst was over, he let them brush him. He even rolled onto his back to have his belly brushed. That was the moment we saw his spirit peek through the fear-gentle, trusting, brave.

The only other time Atticus shows this level of panic is in the car. We've learned it's unsafe for one person to drive without someone sitting in the back seat with him, comforting him through the ride.

Tomorrow is surgery day. He's been through more than any dog ever should, and we are still short on covering his estimated surgery cost. Please, if you can, help us get him the pain-free life he deserves. Don't do it for us—do it for Atticus.

How It Started

October 16, 2025

We will never be able to fully understand the cruelty that humans are capable of inflicting on innocent, helpless animals.

We will never know what all Atticus endured. Why his toes were chopped off on his right foot by his previous owner. Why no one ever brushed through his thick coat. Why no one ever helped him.

And yet - somehow - he forgives.

He leans into love.

He wags his tail.

He seeks connection.

He chooses to trust again.

Atticus was surrendered to the shelter on October 15, 2025. His owner has been charged. We were told that his injury happened a year ago... a year of suffering without medical care.

Infection ravaged what was remaining of the bones in his foot. We don't know how or why it happened - but what we do know is that the rest of his story will look very different. Because Atticus is safe now.

He came straight to Fetch from the shelter, where we gently coaxed this 96-pound malnourished gentle giant out of the car. In true Great Pyrenees fashion, he showed off his stubborn charm - laying down in the parking lot and refusing to move, running off when the staff brought out the cart to help him, and coming to a dead stop when they tried to lift him. Typical Pyrenees behavior... and somehow, it made us smile through the heartbreak.

Atticus will have amputation surgery on Tuesday. His injury is old and beyond repair - but his heart is not. He is goofy, loving, clingy, and so incredibly gentle.

Now he just needs us — all of us — to help him heal.

Welcome to the Squad, Atticus.
