In early May, a kind-hearted Good Samaritan found a sweet stray puppy who she named Cody. She immediately ensured he received the best care: up-to-date puppy vaccinations, deworming, and started on Heartworm prevention. She also discovered that Cody is a quick learner—already housebroken, crate trained, and knowledgeable in basic commands like ‘sit,’ ‘stay,’ and ‘down.’ And Cody's favorite activity? Playing fetch!
Despite her love for Cody, the Good Samaritan couldn't keep him due to her responsibilities raising grandchildren. She found him a new home, but unfortunately, Cody was abandoned shortly after.
Cody’s journey took a turn for the worse when he ended up at Greenville County Animal Care (GCAC). During his brief stay at the shelter, Cody developed kennel cough, which delayed his neutering procedure, and due to shelter overcrowding, he was placed at the top of the euthanasia list.
Thankfully, a wonderful couple who had previously adopted a Dog Squad foster pup stepped up to foster Cody. With their care, Cody has fully recovered from kennel cough and is thriving.
Cody is now about 6 months old, UTD on vaccinations, and continues to be on Heartworm prevention. He is energetic, loves to play fetch, and is eager to learn new tricks. He just needs to be neutered before joining his forever family.
Are you ready to give Cody the loving home he deserves?
In the world of rescue, every day comes with surprises. Today was no different for our Squad Foster Cody, who was scheduled to get neutered. After dropping Cody off at Riverside Vet, we received a call to return due to concerns about Cody’s right eye. We banged a U-turn and headed straight back. Sure enough, Cody’s right eye was foggy and blue in the light. With his dark eyes, it was difficult to notice any changes without him looking into direct light. I started scrolling through the photos I took of Cody on the way to the vet, and sure enough—he had a blue eye in the pictures! Even looking back at photos from our recent Dapper Dog event, something different appeared in Cody’s right eye.
Dr. Price was concerned about glaucoma, a condition that can make dogs feel as if they have a 24/7 migraine. In the worst-case scenario, we might have to resort to surgical removal of the eye to promote a pain-free state for Cody. Dr. Price consulted with an ophthalmologist and conducted a thorough exam. They attempted an ocular tonometry on Cody, which tests eye pressure, but Cody was a wiggle worm, making it difficult to confirm or rule out specific diseases. At first, Dr. Price suspected that Cody is blind in his right eye. After a more thorough inspection, she believes that he still has some vision remaining.
Cody has been referred to an ophthalmologist for further examination and treatment. His bloodwork showed elevated WBCs and eosinophils. As of today, he is being treated for suspected uveitis. Based on his puppy age, he is more likely to have an infection than a more severe underlying cause. Cody will start a two-week course of antibiotics in addition to steroid eye drops. Due to the high eosinophils, we will be adding a few days of Panacur to his meals. Once his bloodwork is back to normal, and depending on the course of treatment for his eye, Cody will be neutered at a later date.
With Cody being referred to a veterinary ophthalmologist, we anticipate even higher vet bills in the coming days. Cody is a precious 6-month-old puppy who currently weighs 40 lbs. His journey has been challenging, but he’s ready to find his forever home. Rescued by a Good Samaritan who found an adopter for him, Cody was sadly abandoned by the adoptive family and ended up at Greenville County Animal Care. Due to kennel cough and overcrowding, he was placed at the top of the euthanasia list. Thankfully, Cody was saved just in time and placed him in a loving medical foster home where he’s been recovering from his illness.
Cody received a clean bill of health from Dr. Price at Riverside Vet on 6/5, aside from his upper respiratory infection. He’s up-to-date on vaccinations and will be neutered once he completes his antibiotics.
This gentle and loving pup has the most adorable ears that bounce when he walks, perfectly reflecting his youthful and joyful personality. Cody is very attentive and eager to learn, making training a breeze. He’s a snuggler who craves physical touch with his humans and loves being close. Cody also has a special request: he prefers a home where pets are allowed on the furniture (his words, not ours).
