Haze is around 2 years old and has earned the official title of “snuggle potato.” From the moment you meet him, he’ll shower you with endless kisses and affection. His favorite activity? A solid game of fetch!
Despite his love for fun and games, Haze has a gentle soul. He prefers the company of smaller dogs but did wonderfully at our recent adoption event surrounded by larger dogs. Plus, he’s good with his foster parents’ resident cats!
Haze is neutered, up-to-date on all his shots, and in perfect health. Now, all he needs is a loving forever home. Could Haze be the perfect addition to your family? Submit an adoption application to begin the process today!
When Haze first joined the Squad, he was a timid soul, uncertain of the world around him. But with love, patience, and the right environment to foster his needs, he’s blossomed into a joyful pup who’s learning what it means to be a dog.
Though he may be hesitant at first, especially around larger dogs, giving Haze the time to decompress reveals his true, playful nature. He’s found joy and companionship playing in the yard with his foster siblings, a lively chihuahua and a German shepherd. Haze has a soft spot for a quick game of fetch and has an adorable obsession with toys - his playful side is contagious!
But don’t let his puppy-like energy fool you; Haze knows the value of relaxation. He cherishes a good belly rub and enjoys nothing more than snuggling on the couch, making him the perfect balance of playful and peaceful.
Could You Be Haze’s Forever Home? Haze is ready to find his forever family, where he can continue to flourish and share his limitless love.
Haze is here to share a crucial Self-Care Sunday tip after a not-so-pleasant skunk encounter. Haze’s past adventure as a stray once led him into a fragrant encounter with a skunk. While he might have thought he was making a new friend, he ended up with a lingering souvenir instead.
Skunk Encounters: What to Do (and Not Do)
If your furry friend ever finds themselves in Haze's pawsition, remember: water is NOT your friend at first. Diving into a bath might be your first instinct, but introducing water can trap the skunk’s oily essence into the fur, making the smell a stubborn resident. Haze knows this all too well, as the skunk’s perfume makes a comeback whenever he gets wet.
DID YOU KNOW? Skunks are precise marksmen, capable of spraying up to 10 feet away and unleashing their defense up to six times in succession.
The Right Response
Instead of reaching for the hose, grab some baking soda, your pet’s shampoo, or dish soap. Combine these into a dry paste and apply generously to your pet’s fur. Let this mixture work its magic for about 30 minutes before rinsing. This method is Haze-approved and gradually diminishes the skunk’s lasting impression, especially noticeable during wet weather.
After his de-skunking spa treatment, Haze indulged in choosing a new Easter rabbit toy and savoring a tasty bully stick. His love for toys and treats knows no bounds! We imagine Haze was just seeking companionship when he stumbled upon the skunk, highlighting his need for a loving forever home.

Through the combined efforts of our dedicated team (thank you to Erica, Mabree, & Anthony!) and the wonders of social media, we were able to connect Soldier (temporarily known as Squad Foster Haze) back to a worried human who had been searching for him since his disappearance weeks ago. It’s easy to cast judgment, but it’s important to remember the challenges of keeping pets secure in rural areas, where the vast landscapes can quickly swallow up our furry friends.
We were provided with undeniable proof of ownership, including photos and veterinary records, confirming Soldier’s identity. The veterinarian also confirmed the human’s story, as this clinician is the individual who found Soldier a family to begin with as a young pup. Understanding the importance of responsible pet ownership, and with the blessing of his family, Soldier was neutered and microchipped under our brief care—a step towards ensuring his wandering days are behind him.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in Soldier’s journey back home. This story isn’t just about one dog; it’s a celebration of the community and the shared commitment to giving every pet a chance at a happy, secure life.
Remember, every pet deserves a family, every family deserves to be whole, and Dog Squad is committed to making those reunions possible, one tail at a time.
Welcome home, Soldier. Here’s to new beginnings and happy endings!
Meet Haze, a young intact male with captivating hazel eyes, whose name reflects the beauty and depth of his gaze. At under 2 years old, Haze has already experienced the kind of adventure that no dog should. Found wandering alone on a rural road in Gaffney, SC, he narrowly escaped a dangerous encounter with an 18-wheeler, thanks to a kind-hearted Samaritan. This angel in disguise noticed Haze’s red collar but no tags and immediately brought him to safety, only to discover he had no microchip despite being checked by two different vets.
Haze’s journey didn’t end there. Efforts to find his family through Nextdoor, PawBoost, and even expanding the search to Spartanburg County have so far been in vain. But what we’ve learned about Haze during his time with his rescuer is nothing short of wonderful. This sweet boy loves giving kisses and playing, showing a gentle side with smaller dogs, though he's a bit shy around dogs his own size.
Haze has mastered the art of being kennel/crate trained, with just a bit of encouragement needed at times. However, his playful spirit comes with the skills of an escape artist, so a secure, fenced-in yard is a must for his foster home. While Haze’s compatibility with children remains unknown, what is clear is his need for a home filled with love, routine, and structure.
Currently weighing 61lbs, Haze is in his prime to find a foster home that will nurture his gentle nature. He is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and Dog Squad is committed to his neutering before he finds his forever home. His current caretaker, a dedicated nursing student, finds herself at a crossroads and unable to provide Haze the attention he deserves due to her demanding schedule and upcoming move to the Northeast. He will move in with his new foster family in the days to come.
