At just four months old, RJ is still learning the ropes of being a dog.
But one thing he has already mastered?
Being a Great Pyrenees. 😂
RJ is dog friendly, kid friendly, and absolutely full of personality. He is spunky, stubbornly independent, and has no problem letting you know when he disagrees with your plans.
He has opinions. He has selective hearing.
And he is already pretty convinced that he is fully qualified to make all of his own decisions.
Underneath all of that Pyr attitude, though, is an incredibly smart, affectionate little guy who is learning and growing every single day.

Dog Squad is not a first-come, first-served rescue. Our goal is to find the home that best matches each individual dog’s needs.

RJ is the kind of puppy who will make you laugh, test your patience, steal your heart, and then completely ignore you when you ask him to come inside.
Because, well…
He is a Great Pyrenees.
He is affectionate, curious, smart, and already showing the independent streak this breed is famous for.
RJ does not always see your suggestion as a command.
Sometimes he sees it more as… information he will take under consideration.
He loves interacting with people and dogs, and his personality is only getting bigger as he grows.
And considering he still has a whole lot of physical growing left to do, we suspect the opinions are only getting bigger too.

RJ is not looking for someone who simply wants a giant fluffy white dog.
He needs a family who genuinely understands livestock guardian breeds.
Great Pyrenees were bred to think independently, assess situations on their own, and make decisions without waiting for a human to tell them what to do.
That independence is not a flaw.
It is the breed.
And RJ is already showing us exactly who he is. He needs people who appreciate his intelligence, understand that blind obedience is not the goal, and are willing to provide consistent boundaries, training, patience, and structure as he matures.

• Great Pyrenees or similar livestock guardian dog breed experience
• Fully fenced yard with fencing at least 5 feet tall
• Commitment to continued training and socialization
• An understanding of the independence and temperament of livestock guardian breeds

• Another dog to learn from and play with
• A family who finds stubbornness funny at least 70% of the time
• A healthy sense of humor
RJ is still learning manners, boundaries, routines, and what humans apparently mean when they say things like “come,” “leave it,” and “please stop doing that.”
Consistency is going to matter.
So will patience.
And because he is a Great Pyrenees, there will probably always be moments when he hears you perfectly well and simply decides he has a different plan.
That is why breed experience is so important for him.
We are not trying to train the independence out of RJ.
We are helping him learn how to live successfully with humans while still allowing him to be the dog he was bred to be.
