He didn’t have a name when he entered the shelter. They called him “Turkey,” just a number on a kennel door, another face in the crowd of forgotten dogs. But today? Today, he became Rocky.
Today, he got his freedom ride.
Rocky entered the shelter alongside Squad foster Oyster, dumped behind a local middle school like trash. Both boys were in rough shape — emaciated, sick, and covered in urine from living in filth. On July 15th, they were hospitalized at Upstate Vet before being transferred to Greenville County Animal Care.
We made a promise after we pulled Oyster: we weren’t leaving his brother behind.
Thanks to the kindness of Nicki and Matt, Rocky is now safe and settling into their home. His coat is still stained and he smelled overwhelmingly of urine when we picked him up, but tonight, Rocky got his very first bath in what we can only assume has been a very long time. The dog wash was closed, but his amazing foster family didn’t wait — they scrubbed him down and showed him that better days are finally here.
And despite everything he’s been through, Rocky is just so happy to be alive. He’s goofy. He’s sweet. He doesn’t hold grudges. He greets the world with a wagging tail and a hopeful heart.
We’ll be creating an Amazon Wishlist soon with some of the supplies Rocky needs — stay tuned if you’d like to help!
Welcome to the Squad, Rocky. You’re safe now. 🤍
