Meet Winston, the squishy faced 3-year-old Shar Pei mix who's looking for a forever home!
Winston’s timid and docile nature made it challenging for rescuers to capture him, but they refused to give up and they brought him to safety after a few days of trying. When he was rescued, Winston was in rough shape - emaciated and covered with old wounds that spoke of a difficult past. He also had ticks piled up inside his ears, along with ear infections and a yeasty skin infection. Despite it all, this resilient pup miraculously tested negative for heartworm!
Despite his tough start, Winston's heart is full of love. He's a calm and gentle boy who forms deep bonds with those he trusts. Today, he met Dr. Schmitz at Five Forks Animal Hospital and he will continue to be treated for infections in both ears. He’s even gained 10lbs since his initial vet visit on 7/6!
We may not know much about his past, but we've learned that Winston is both dog and people friendly. He's currently thriving in a foster home with multiple small dogs, getting along beautifully with them. Winston is a quick learner, already knowing commands like 'sit' and 'shake,' and he's beginning to enjoy playtime with his ball.
On walks, he gracefully walks calmly on a leash, making outdoor adventures a pleasure. But perhaps his favorite moments are those spent cuddling with his human friends, as he cherishes the warmth of companionship. Winston truly thrives on the love and care of his humans, and he prefers not to be left alone for long.

Winston Meets Dr. Schmitz 8/1/23
Winston is overall a very healthy boy! He’s UTD on vaccinations (Bordetella, Lyme, influenza, parvo, rabies) and he tested negative for heartworm disease. Next stop: Winston gets neutered on 8/15/23.
